The Ana’s Hummingbird Bra is made for reconstruction and surgery that requires drains/tubes/bulbs after surgery. Many mastectomy and reconstruction breast surgeries have multiple drains after surgery. The original Ana’s Hummingbird bra has been designed to be soft, yet have good compression while allowing the patient to hang drain bags either directly off the bra or via a velcro strap off the bra.
One of the founders of Brilliant Contours experienced reconstruction surgery where the drains had to be pinned to another garment during recovery and it was painful and difficult. We designed the Ana’s Hummingbird Bra and drain bags to be as accessible as possible while avoiding suture areas and to allow you to have the convenience of a drain holder in the first few weeks after surgery.
The outer fabric is exceptionally soft to the touch and the inner fabric has strong compression without being painful. You get two drain bags with your purchase that will hold up to 3 drains/bulbs per side and they are detachable so that once you have your drains removed the bra is still a wonderful recovery bra for the remainder of your healing process. It is a quality bra made of chinlon/spandex, lace and strong materials to last a very long time if cared for properly.
The Butterfly Collection makes use of multi-color, texture and patterns. They feature a more fun side for many who don’t mind wearing these on their own. Like our other bras they are great for workouts, post op recovery and long term use. It’s worth noting the quilted designs such as the Cloudy Crescent or any ending with the word “Cloak” typically have a little less stretch and therefore will fit tighter. These are usually a good option if you fall in between sizes. All bras are washable and will retain their compression and color.
Bottom line, all our bras will work for your recovery. It just comes down to personal preference and in some cases sizing.
